How the loss adds up

A missed call is only lost money when the caller would have become a paying job. So the calculator chains four numbers together: how many calls you get, how many you miss, how many of those would have booked, and what a booked job is worth.

Why missed calls hurt more than they look

Most callers will not leave a voicemail

When someone has an urgent problem - a leak, a breakdown, a pain - they do not leave a message and wait. They hang up and call the next number. Around 85% of emergency callers never leave a voicemail, so a missed call is usually a lost customer, not a callback.

The cost compounds every week

A handful of missed calls a week feels small. Multiplied by 52 weeks and your average job value, it is often the price of a van, a hire, or a year of marketing - leaking out of the business unnoticed because nobody books the job that never rang through.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a missed call actually cost? +

It depends on your job value and how many missed callers would have booked, but for most trades it lands well into the thousands a year. The calculator multiplies your weekly missed calls by the share that would have booked and your average job value, then annualises it. Enter your own numbers above for a figure specific to your business.

What counts as a missed call? +

Any inbound call you do not answer live - it rings out, hits voicemail, or comes in while you are on the tools, with a customer, or after hours. Even calls that reach voicemail count as missed for this purpose, because most callers with an urgent need will not leave a message.

Do most people really not leave a voicemail? +

For urgent, service-led calls, no. Industry figures put it at roughly 80 to 85% of callers who hang up rather than leave a voicemail when nobody answers, and a large share simply call a competitor instead. That is why an unanswered call is usually a lost job, not a delayed one.

How is this different from just getting an answerphone? +

An answerphone captures a message from the minority who leave one. A live answering service answers the call, takes the details, books the job or qualifies the lead, and sends it straight to you - so you capture the callers who would otherwise have hung up. That is the gap this calculator measures.

How much of the lost revenue can I actually win back? +

You will not recover every missed call - some are wrong numbers, suppliers or spam - but a 24/7 answering service captures the large majority of genuine new-customer calls that currently ring out. The calculator shows a recoverable figure based on answering the calls you are missing today.

Is Hey Jodie cheaper than the revenue I am losing? +

For most businesses, yes - by a wide margin. Hey Jodie starts well below the cost of a single missed job a month for many trades, while missed calls often cost thousands a year. Use the receptionist vs AI and ROI calculators to compare the cost against the revenue you would recover.
