What to know about call diversion on Spark

Copy the stars exactly

Spark's mobile codes start with a single star and end in *11#, so generic codes such as **61* are not the Spark format. The turn-off codes are uneven too: #61**11# and #21**11# have two stars before the 11, while #67*11# and #62*11# have one.

Fibre and wireless landlines

Lift the handset, dial the code, such as *17# for all calls, listen for the prompt, then key in the number and press #. How long the landline rings before a no-answer diversion is set by its No Answer timer, which you change with *39#. You can also set diversions in MySpark.

Older copper landlines

Copper lines store up to nine diversion numbers in slots 161 to 169. Dial 181, the slot number, then the number to divert to and #, and wait for the long-short-long tone. Dial the slot number, such as 161, to switch that diversion on and 160 to switch it off. Spark Business copper lines use the same slots. Diverted calls outside your free calling area are not included in your free national calling minutes.

After a Spark voice upgrade

Spark is moving copper landlines to its upgraded voice service, and the codes change with it. After the upgrade, dial *17# or 1417#, then the number and #, to divert every call, and #17# or 1517# to turn it off.

Divert calls from your phone's settings

Your phone may also offer call forwarding in its settings, depending on your device and plan. The iPhone Call Forwarding switch sends every call on. Use a supported no-answer option if you want your phone to ring first.

iPhone

  1. Open Settings, then Apps, then Phone (on older iOS, Settings then Phone).
  2. Tap Call Forwarding and switch it on. If you use two SIMs, choose your business line first.
  3. Tap Forward To and enter the number calls should go to.
  4. Go back. A forwarding icon shows in the status bar while it is on.

Android

  1. Open the Phone app, tap the three-dot menu, then Settings.
  2. Tap Calls (or Supplementary services, depending on the phone), then Call forwarding.
  3. Choose When unanswered so your phone rings first and only missed calls move on.
  4. Enter the number, tap Turn on, and pick the right SIM if asked.

If the code doesn't work

"Connection problem or invalid MMI code"

The network did not accept the request. Check you have signal, turn off Wi-Fi calling and aeroplane mode, then dial the code again exactly as shown.

"Setting activation failed" or "unsuccessful"

The network refused the divert. Some plans block diverts to other numbers, and some networks want the number in international form. Check the notes on this page, or set it up in your phone settings instead.

Calls still go to voicemail

Voicemail is itself a divert, and only one can be active for each condition. Setting a new divert replaces the voicemail one. If calls still reach voicemail, cancel all diverts and set yours again.
