Call forwarding questions
What is the code for call forwarding?
It depends on the carrier. Verizon uses *72 plus the number to forward all calls, *71 for calls you do not answer or when you are busy, and *73 to turn it off. T-Mobile uses codes such as **21* and **61* with the number starting with 1. AT&T asks wireless customers to use the phone settings. Use the page for your carrier to get the exact code.
What is the difference between *71 and *72?
On carriers that use them, such as Verizon, *72 forwards every call straight away, so your phone does not ring. *71 only forwards the calls you do not answer or that arrive while you are on another call, so your phone rings first. *73 turns forwarding off.
Can an iPhone forward only the calls I miss?
Not from Settings. The Call Forwarding switch in iPhone Settings forwards every call, so your phone never rings. To forward only unanswered calls, dial your carrier's conditional forwarding code from the Phone app instead.
Does call forwarding cost extra?
It depends on the carrier and the plan. Some include it, some older or prepaid plans charge for it, and forwarded calls can use your plan minutes. The page for each carrier lists what that carrier says about cost.
